There are several products out there (so I have heard) that is envelope glue. I will have links to those for where I have found it - the prices might vary - but as of today April 3, 2011 this is what they are. If you have a favorite one you make yourself or know of another manufacturer that makes it let me know I will add it to the list!!
Crafter's Companion - Cutter's Creek carries it for $5.95 for 2 ounce container - this is a lick and stick
Miracle Tape - Viva Las Vegastamps carries it - comes in two different rolls 1" x 55 yards for $9.99 and 1/2" x 55 yards for $6.99 - this you apply then peel backing off when ready to seal the envelope. Here are recipes to make your own
Take four packets of unflavored gelatin and dissolve it in about a a third of a cup of hot (close to boiling) white vinegar. You can also add up to a tablespoon of vanilla extract or other flavoring, although with very small children this might encourage them to eat the paper. Stir well. While the mixture is still hot, use a sterilized paintbrush or toothbrush to paint it on the back of the paper you wish to use. Work fairly quickly, because the mix will begin to gel up as it cools. Hang and allow to dry.
